Thank you everyone who stepped up to support our GoFundMe campaign for an LGBTI-friendly clinic in Tanzania. We reached our goal of $4500 within 48 hours of launching the campaign! With all that momentum we decided to expand our goal to $9000, just to make the clinic and the organization behind it more sustainable.

Since the Government of Tanzania’s crackdown on LGBTI people in its country, and specifically on health and social services deemed to be “promoting homosexuality” (e.g., HIV prevention services), LGBTI Tanzanians have gone underground, fearful of their safety and security.
Many are more reluctant than ever to seek health services through public health facilities, where they may be subjected to harassment, humiliation, and discrimination at best, and at worst, may be turned over to authorities, since homosexuality is criminalized and the sodomy law is now being invoked.
A small community-based NGO focused on the health, safety, and personal development of the LGBTI community, has recently succeeded in developing a partnership with a private gynecologist, who, through a proposed cost-sharing arrangement, has agreed to dedicate a portion of their clinical practice (including counseling and safe referral) to meeting the health needs of all members of the LGBTI community.
Will you pitch in? The clinic is desperately needed. Will you help us raise $9000 before January 31?
