My sister, Alyssa, is 26 years old. I have created this page in hopes of finding a donor kidney for my sister and to help reduce some of the costs that her and my parents are going to incur.
She has been a Type 1 Diabetic, like myself, since the age of 6. I was diagnosed at age 3. She is also battling Glaucoma in both eyes that already have 2 shunts in them due to her eyes not being able to drain fluid properly, Type 1 Diabetes, and now End-Stage Kidney Failure. amongst other diseases. Her list is endless.
Her kidney function has dropped drastically to 23. Once it gets to 20, she will be able to be on the Transplant List. She currently takes 32 pills a day, on top of countless finger-sticks and injections of insulin. She takes medication to stop the nausea that causes the nausea. She is unable to work due to her condition.
The medical costs alone are astronomical for one who is working. Meanwhile, Alyssa is not and not receiving any Unemployment/ Disability, Medicaid... nothing. She has countless weekly doctor appointments that my parents have to take off of work to drive to PA, NJ and NY for.
It kills me to see my sister, who was once so happy and smiling and enjoying life, living this way. In pain, taking medications day in and day out. Having to worry if she can leave the house today if she is feeling ok. If she has a doctor appointment or not, and most importantly, I am tired of seeing her suffer. It's not the Alyssa I know.
We are in search of a donor kidney for my sister. Since I am a Type 1 Diabetic, I am not able to give her my own. We need a Type 0 Kidney.
Please, pass this page around and hopefully some kind soul will help my sister and my family. She will soon be on dialysis daily which will be for life, or until a donor match is found. This process and procedure is very draining, as if she already isn't worn out from the numerous diseases and medications.
