Kelsey Chen's Power to Fight!

Donation protected

At 3.5 years old, Kelsey had what appeared to be a childhood cold. After a week of no improvement her mother went with her intuition and took her to Children’s Emergency. After many hours in Emergency, a MRI scan was done and her parents were hit with devastating news. Kelsey was diagnosed with cancer.

The diagnosis was Nasopharyngeal Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, an inoperable tumor that within hours of detection had taken her sight and some of her hearing. The tumor was pressing on the chiasm optic nerve causing damage and resulting in complete loss of vision. Unfortunately, the cancer had also metastasized to her lungs.

Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments were started immediately following her diagnosis. After several rounds of treatment, the scans were hopeful. The treatment was slowly shrinking the inoperable tumor and was successful in treating the cancer in her lungs. Great news for this optimistic family. Kelsey went back to being a preschooler and awaiting that first day of kindergarten.

Kelsey started Kindergarten in September and quickly became the class favorite. She worked hard to learn how to read and write braille and how to get around her school using her cane. Her spirit and determination was like no other, never allowing her vision loss or hearing impairment to stop her from just being a kid. Inadvertently teaching her young classmates about understanding, compassion and empathy. This courageous little princess brings a ray of sunshine everywhere she goes and school is no exception.

Despite the optimism of this little princess and her amazing family they were hit with even more devastating news in February. Kelsey’s most recent scans revealed that the cancer had returned in her lungs and also just above the heart.

In the face of this recent diagnosis, Kelsey’s parents have both put their careers on hold to support Kelsey as she fights a battle no child should have to fight. The financial burden endured cannot be understated.

Would you please hold Kelsey and her family in your hearts and wish them the strength and courage they will need to, once again, battle this terrible disease.

Please pass this along to anyone with the capacity to give. Any amount, no matter how small, can help us support Kelsey and her family.
