This is a difficult thing for me to do. Normally, I love to write, but the task at hand seems to be more than I have ever undertaken. So here it is. This is for Kelly Bowers Woodward.
Most of the thousand plus friends she has on and off Facebook have already been made aware that Kelly has recently been diagnosed with cancer of the colon.
Kelly had been extremely fatigued, pale, and passing blood since the beginning of the year. When she finally went to the doctor on February 14th, he confirmed she had a mass on her colon, and surgery was scheduled for March 5th.
Her surgery took 3 agonizing hours, during which time a good deal of family and friends practically took over the waiting room. The doctor removed a foot of her colon, along with 19 lymph nodes for biopsy, and also repaired a hernia. Everyone was greatly relieved when the doctor finally appeared and said that there were "no surprises" and that Kelly had done very well. After which, the family then proceeded to promptly take over the cafeteria.
Kelly spent 4 days at Warren Memorial Hospital, recovering, and came home March 8th to home sweet home and her Mama and 3 children. She is continuing her positive mind set, and asks that everyone please keep all vibes tuned to a positive nature!!! Since home, biopsy results have come back that 3 of the 19 lymph nodes were cancer-positive, so an oncologist will be consulted with very soon.
Kelly will have her follow up appointment March 14th to have staples removed.
This is where we are right now. I could go on and on. But Kelly is such a huge part of our Front Royal community, what can I tell you that you don't already know. She was born and raised here, has devoted herself to giving back to the town that loves her so by educating our children, believing in their futures, even those who are extremely challenged.
I would love to see us be able to give back to Kelly in a way that would help her, as she has so selflessly given, from her heart, so that she can continue her life on this very special path that was chosen just for her.
Any and all gifts from the heart would be appreciated so greatly to cover expenses of surgery, time out of work, and treatments to come. All updates on doctor visits and outcomes will be posted as we go along on this journey of healing with Kelly.
