Keep Karen Moving

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Karen. I am a 59-year-old wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and coworker.  Until last summer I was a lifetime Jazzerciser, an avid gardener, a wanna-be baker, and a hands on grandmother. I was an active participant in life and fiercely independent.

Now I am an ALS patient and I am asking you for help.

ALS is a new and very difficult journey for me. Part of the difficulty of this journey is the struggle to maintain my independence. That struggle shows itself in every day tasks, large and small, and it also shows itself financially. I am quickly learning how expensive this condition can be. I have had to install ramps in each entry way in my house, I have had to get walkers and wheelchairs, and soon I will have major expenses that I cannot avoid.

Currently I am having to alter my home to allow it to be wheelchair accessible. Not only that, I will have to invest in a new vehicle that can transport me in a wheelchair. This is not to mention the many more expenses still to come such as making my oven/range reachable from my chair; purchasing a power wheelchair; altering my light switches and appliances to be voice activated; investing in a computer that can activate those switches and appliances by my voice; and many other unknown expenses at this time.

I am proud of a life long career in school food service, but it has not been lucrative. I'm blessed to have the support of the ALS foundation http://webla.alsa.org ,  Team Gleason teamgleason.org and most importantly my family and friends. But these supports can only go so far.

That is why I'm doing one of the hardest things I've ever done and asking you for your help. Below is a list of what your donation can do for me.

$10 - can buy a safe cheese grater
$20 - can buy a pair of compression socks to prevent swelling
$30 - can buy a safe cutting board so I can continue to cook
$50 - can buy a set of hand rails for a bathroom.
$70 - can buy a bed rail to help me get in and out of bed.
$100 - can buy a pair of shoes that will fit over my braces
$150 - can pay one months prescriptions
$200 - can buy a smart doorlock that I can open with my phone.
$300 - can buy a smart device holder for my wheelchair.

And of course, any amount in any way can make a difference.

Thank you for your support, I can't thank you enough.
