Katherine, Nicholas, and Baby Michael's story, according to the strongest woman I know, Katherine Welch....

"On October 1st, my world stopped when I heard the word leukemia. I felt every emotion in the shortest period of time. As of October 5, I'm officially 23 weeks pregnant. I've yet to look up AML on any source. I don't want to read about it, I don't want to know the pain I'm about to encounter, I want to fight it, and I'm fighting it for my son, Michael Edward Welch "MEW".


Our son is named after Nicholas' cousin, Deputy Michael Andrew Norris "MAN". Michael lost his life protecting you and me. The moment we got his family's blessing for using his name, we sat in the nursery, and I told Nicholas that our son will always know the hero who he's named after. You see, Saint Michael is The Guardian of The Catholic Church, protector of policemen, and sickness just to name a few. I do believe as many have told me, our son saved my life. If I wasn't pregnant, there's no telling when we would've found out I had AML. It is my dream to be a mother, and I know "MAN" is watching out for "MEW".


Every kick, move, and wiggle I feel right now pushes me to stay strong. I feel a calmness over me that assures me your prayers are working. I've read every comment on Facebook, every text, every email, and listened to every voicemail. I appreciate it all. Please do not stop. Feel free to add me to any prayer lists. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, please share old photos, and memories you have that will make me laugh on our facebook page. I haven't lost my humor yet, and I don't plan to.

Please do not just pray for Michael and I; pray for my husband, family, friends, and the medical staff at Northside. This is in God's hands, and this was in his plan. I may lose my hair, but I will not lose my faith. Thank you so much for all the prayers, love, and support for our family. Without you, we wouldn't be where we are today."
