Karen's Water Emergency

Donation protected
This is a story about one of the best people on the planet who has been hit with hard times dating several years back, but now has a hard time emergency. (And by emergency, I mean a large and expensive water pipe burst.) But first - a little background about the person for whom we are requesting assistance.

Karen Torres has been my best friend since I moved into her neighborhood and attended her crazy Halloween party back in 1993. But she's everyone's best friend! She truly has the biggest heart you'll ever know. She gives of herself freely and often (sometimes maybe too much) and never, EVER asks for anything in return.

Like many people divorced in middle age, finances are hard - but for her, they have even become harder. She was laid off several years ago from a company that she worked at for more than  a quarter century because they wanted to outsource and save money (common story where there is no loyalty to long-time employees).

She has struggled since then and although she pounded the pavement and looked for jobs, it was an uphill battle. When she finally found a job, health problems hit her hard and she was let go. I'm not sure she wants all of her health problems to be broadcast (and for this small insight, I'm sorry honey - but it all adds up). A couple of years ago, she came down with one of the worst cases of pneumonia that her doctors had ever seen. That was a long recovery. She was also diagnosed with diabetes and COPD. She has had fibromyalgia for quite a while and has lived with severe knee and back pain since she was in a horrible car accident decades ago. She literally struggles every day to stay healthy and survive - mostly so she can enjoy her grandchildren, whom she loves more than anything!

But survive she does - and always with a smile and continued offers to help others.  Now it's OUR turn to help her. I'm opening up this Go Fund Me campaign because it pains me to see her struggle and I can't pay it for her (and believe me, I would if I could!).

She has no savings and struggles to pay her monthly bills. She has two insurance policies and neither one will cover it. There is no way she can find the money to pay for this pipe to be repaired. So her family and I are asking for your generous assistance – no matter how small – to help her end this water nightmare. She has received a couple estimates already but can’t move forward without money. Right now, as I type (on 05/18/16), there is still a large water pipe dumping water in her front yard gushing down the road. She lives in a townhouse building (in the middle) and we have our fingers crossed that there will be no damage to the other homes on either side of her or she may have to pay for their repairs.

Every little bit counts – even if only the cost of a skipping a coffee at Starbucks! EVERY little bit counts. Every penny will go to pay for the water pipe repair (and if there is extra other mounting bills). She will be MOST appreciative that you shared even a small amount of your hard-earned money! As will I and her family!  Thank you in advance. May all of your prayers be answered in life! Xoxo, Debbie
