Joe's Angels helping SSG Joe Mal

Spende geschützt

My name is Dawn Houle and I live in Southbury, CT.
I am the sister of Staff Sgt. Joseph Malewicki (Joe Mal), born and raised in Milford, CT.  Joe is assigned to the 341st Transportation Detachment (MCT) located in Grafenwohr, Germany, as an  Army Reservest.

My youngest brother Joseph age 45, was hurt in Waidhaus, Germany on 6/4/2016.
As Joe parked his motorcycle and he went to get off.
The  tractor trailer that had been following him, hit him.
The Motorcycle then fell on top of him, pushing him down into a village street, a narrow two lane road in Waidhaus, Germany. He landed between the truck cab and the trailer.
As the truck suddenly stopped, it ran over his left arm and remained there, until the vehicle moved.

He was rushed to the Klinikum Weiden Hospital in Rhineland Palatine, Germany.
During this time he called his two different friends from his cell phone to let them know.
"We now know that Joe was conscious during the entire accident"!

Joe remained on a Ventilator for two weeks.
The Doctors worked everyday to save his left arm because of good cirulation. He developed pneumonia and had to be put on a Trachea, then on dialysis because of the infection in his tissues and muscle. The damage in the arm was necrosis. He was hours away from dying.
Saturday, June 18th, two weeks after the accident, we were told they immediately needed to remove his arm, or he would die from the necrosis.

He currently has served 21 + years in the military,          15 years of active duty and currently stationed in the National Guard Reserves in Grafenwohr, Germany.

He went over seas to Iraq and Afghanistan, & Bosnia during war time.
He spent many years traveling abroad without having any injuries. We were so proud of him and his USA Military career. He served our country well, with respect, pride and courage.

During this time of immeness sadness, our family were recently told that he had no private medical insurance to pay his new medical bills. He had been enrolled in Tricare  standard Insurance since 12-14-2015.         There was "No Choice" given at the time of the accident, to bring him to the VA Hospital anywhere. The Red Cross did not notify his father and our family until 3 days after he had been hospitalized.

**Yesterday 7-17-2016, TriCare comfirmed that his medical Insurance was reinstated but the VA cannot
pay for any of his medical bills, since it was his day off duty.

We are very grateful and want to thank the Police/Fire/ Medical & Military Personnel, The Incredible Hospital ICU Staff, at Klinikum Weiden, as well as the many wonderful friends in Germany. They have shown Joe quality professional care with the concern for my brothers health and welfare.
I also want to thank all of the people that have offered our family help in many ways. And also to those of you who have made donations, to help my brother with paying his medical copayments. You are all Joe's Angels and you have helped him to survive this awful Tragedy.
We remain eternally grateful.

"No man is not a failure who has friends".

Special thank you's to *Heike & Martin Sieber, *Cpt. Gloria Rosario, Guy Patterson, Elaine Boshoff, Major Mary Ritzmann, Seargent Novak, Seargent Beck, Brigadare General  and all of Joe's military unit,
for your friendship and your concern with everything you have done to help him these last seven weeks.

This accident will surely alter his life,
physically, emotionally and financially.
As Joe's sister, I would appeal to anyone who might be willing to help him with his medical bills.
Any help or amount of money you are able to offer will help my brother to keep getting the best medical care possible. In future weeks ahead he will be getting a skin graft from the leg, and later a prosthesis for his arm. He will have to under go Physical/ Occupational Therapy and counseling as well.

Joe is a good man and has helped many other people in his short lifetime. He is a funny guy and enjoys making others laugh, to feel good.
Oddly, on the day of the accident, about an hour earlier,
he had stopped to help out a motorist who's car had broken down along side of the road.
A female Nurse at the hospital where ironically, he would be going after his accident, about 1 hour later.
She remembered Joe, he said that he was from Connecticut. Joe became a patient of hers in the ICU.

My brother and our family, will be very appreciative for any help that you could provide for Joe now or in the future. Please share this link for my brother with everyone you can. Thank you all for your support, positive thoughts and prayers.

Joe's medical conditon is progressing and he is continuing to get better everyday. His vital signs are better and he is stable now. He will be heading to Landstulh for a brief stabilization and then on to the Walter Reed Medical Center for intensive rehab.
Please share Joe's story with everyone you can so that we might get more help for him.

Respectively,
Dawn Houle
