Going to Nationals, Culinary Arts

Donation protected
Joann Loomis, 2nd year culinary student in Houston, will represent the state of Texas at the national meeting of Skills USA this year in Louisville Kentucky this summer, and is looking for support. She will compete against other state's representatives in a culinary contest that will test her ability to use every part of a chicken.

Joann Loomis, is a 6th generation Texan and she is ready to "bring it" against the nation's best. With a little help she can show the rest of the nation what it means when we say "Don't mess with Texas".

Joann is a varsity volleyball player, coach and aspiring culinary professional. Her dream is to pursue a career in creating, preparing, and delivering excellence in culinary arts and perhaps even running her own restaurant in the future. This competition is a major step in achieving that goal, national recognition is important and if she wins scholorship money is also available.

Thank you all in advance for your support. Donations of any size are greatfully accepted but as a special THANK YOU Joann will send a dozen of her award-winning cookies for each donation over $50.

She entered the Miller Career and Technical School in Katy Texas last year and this was her second major competition, placing first in District 8 competition and then placing first at the State competition in Corpus Christi against representatives from all other districts in Texas.

However, funds are tight and we would like to ensure her participation, and allow her twin sister to attend. The two of them work together, they play volleyball together, they spend every waking moment together and Joann wants her there as her support team.

Funds raised will cover hotel rooms, meals, air fare, equipment, food and miscellaneous expenses. Not to mention food to practise with prior to competition.

Any dollars not spent on this adventure will be used for future culinary education. Currently Joann has been accepted to the University of Houston and will major in Hotel & Restaurant Management while pursuing culinary arts.
