My Foster Jax's Orthopedic Surgery

Donation protected
Jax is an adorable 1.5 year old Cattle Dog mix up for adoption that I've been fostering and working with on behalf of Love That Dog Hollywood, a no-kill rescue partner in L.A., for about a year.  He is a shy and insecure but high energy, playful, and very sweet dog with a very young, puppy-like enthusiasm for life and intense love of tennis balls!
I recently came home after work one day to find him hopping around, not using his right back leg, and took him to my vet for an exam and X-rays. Radiology indicated that he has congenital Patellar Luxation in both rear legs, and due to his energetic personality, he has damaged the ACL in his right rear leg, requiring costly orthopedic surgery.  Upon a consultation visit with a specialist recommended by my vet, the estimate for this procedure from a highly recommended SF Valley surgeon is $4,200-4,500 all-in, and the rescue organization is not equipped to deal with an expense of this magnitude for just one of the many animals they are currently assisting.
My goal is to raise the funds needed to accomplish the repair without placing a burden on them, so he can get back to his routine of exercise, play, and work (as his behavioral therapy includes continued socialization & generalization, and confidence building by satisfying his natural herding instinct,) and LTDH may continue their efforts with other animals in need.  Similar to the TPLO procedure, recovery and rehab are expected to take roughly 3-3.5 months, with baby steps to eventually rehab and strengthen his legs and ligaments completely over that time period. Once he has fully recovered, he'll be ready to go to a loving forever home and be the perfect companion for the right dog-savvy and patient family.

Although we are keeping his activity severely limited in the meantime to avoid further damage, I would like to have the procedure done as quickly as possible, so he is not in any pain, and arthritis does not progress any further in the affected area.  He's currently on a prescription anti-inflammatory/pain relief medication until the surgery.  Although I can't keep Jax personally, I adore this little dog and will do everything in my power to help make sure he is happy, healthy, and placed in a loving home with an adopter who can truly appreciate his assets and the strong bond he will form with them. He has his whole life ahead of him, and he'll be a wonderful companion once he's back to his normal, healthy state.
I will be forever grateful to anyone who can find a small place in their hearts to help this amazing little guy to repair the ailment he was born with and have an active, healthy future ahead!  He's an absolute doll of a pup wih tons of love to give!
Thank you in advance for your support of Jax!
