Help Jake his fight against cancer

Donation protected

Jake is my 7 year old Curly Gelding. He is my "fun" horse. But not only that, he is our main trail horse on our guided trail rides at the ranch. Many beginner, insecure or people who wanted a fun ride have enjoyed their rides with Jake. He is always the favorite and never let anybody down. Competitive trail rides with obstacles, camping, Christmas parades we have done so much in such a short time.
Then he got an eye infection that would flare up every now and then. But it became worse and worse and we had to take him to Rood and Riddle equine hospital in Lexington, KY
In April 2015 he was diagnosed with Ocular Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Cancer on the third eye lid.
During the exam however we also noticed a small lump on the side of his head.
The specialist was not very optimistic and she gave me 3 options.
1. Putting him down
2. MRI and decide what steps to be made after the results (costs $2000 just the MRI)
3. Biopsy to find out if it is spread or not ($1000)
4. Surgery to possibly remove to eye and the tumor in the lymph node. estimated costs $3000

We went for the biopsy and surgery and in May Jake went through a 5 hour surgery.  I have been sitting with him during and after the surgery, hours and hours of waiting and praying. It took much longer than they expected and the tumor was big and aggressive.  His eye could not be saved.
3 days later he came home with a drain and lots of stitches. He healed great and we gave him herbal supplements (turmeric) to keep the cancer away. Also the bill came in..and it was of course higher than estimated.

2 months later Jake was his old self and we started riding him again. We even had guest riding him again and all seemed to be great.
Until the beginning of October....I noticed a marble size lump in the area where the lymph node was removed.
My world fell apart and I totally panicked. My Jake who is doing so well...not again!
I contacted the clinic and my only option was chemotherapy and radiation. Costs $ 15.000 to $20.000 with no guarantee he would get better.
That was not an option.

I found a holistic veterinarian in Brentwood, TN. I talked to Dr. Mark Ingram DVM and explained what was going on. They have experience with cancer and he said we had a chance so we started treatment with several herbs, supplements and injections.
After 6 weeks we are making progress the tumor is slinking and dying. However we had no idea how much this is all costs. We already have spend more than we could. However we have come so far and Jake is doing so good. The bills keep coming and I am way over my limit.
He is so brave, strong and young.. and most of all HAPPY.
If you would not know he was so ill you wouldn't say.
He eats well he is in the pasture with his friends and comes in every morning and evening for his treatments.
I didn’t wanted to do this fundraiser but I am at the end of my financial rope and have so many other mouths to feed. Several of my friends encouraged me to set up this GoFundMe.
His friend Spirit and I are humbling asking for help to safe this beautiful sweet young horse.

Thank you so much,

Jaro, Marion and Jake
