Jacob's Leg Straightening Surgery

Jacob is a 10 year old boy who lives in chronic pain from his legs being so badly bowed.  He was born with Achondroplasia, aka dwarfism. He uses a wheelchair most times. He takes nerve pain meds, advil, and  narcotics as needed to keep his day to day doable. The lower leg puts pressure on his knees, thighs,  hips, buttocks,  and back. This surgery will help reduce or even get rid of the pain. He has been battling his weight but with limited moments and chronic pain, it is almost impossible to get his weight under control.  We are hopeful that he will not only get relief from the day to day pain but also be able to be more active and get his weight under control.  

Jacob is fun, loving, caring,  and the bravest kid that I know. He is honestly my hero.  He is also so happy, so full of smiles, and so full of life! He's been through so much medically and this time it's going to be harder for his recovery and for our family  finances. Jacob  has been blessed to have only have the top surgeons in the LPA ( Little People of America) community (possibly in the world )working on him.  At times, like this, the cost can be extremely hard to afford. 

This will be Jacob's 1st surgery of 2019, his 29th time using sedation for surgeries and/or long procedures. This surgery is going to be mid February in Portland, Or. 

The expenses will include 15 round trip airline tickets (pre-op, surgery  day, leg pin removal, and post op.) A minimum of 9 weeks of missed full-time work for mom and a minimum of 4 missed full-time plus overtime weeks for dad.  Lodging, food, rental car, gas, excessive medical bill's and other co-pays because we have a PPO and our deductibles are not met yet because it's only January which makes our responsibilities at 100% until it is reach. And our normal bill's, babysitting for our other 3 children, and what ever other things that might come up unexpectedly or things that we forgot about covering.  We will also have to buy him some medical equipment for after surgery.
