Jack's PU Surgery/Recovery Costs

Donation protected
Hi guys,

This is our cat Jack. He underwent a necessary surgery today called a Perineal Urethrostomy  after experiencing extreme difficulty in passing urine through his urethra. He has been held since Oct. 31st when he was diagnosed with Struvite crystals, and his situation wasn't improving after spending several days implanted with a catheter at the pet clinic. Something that we thought would take a few days has resulted in more than 2 weeks of him being hospitalized, surgery, and other medical costs... all this without pet insurance. This is why we started this GoFundMe, so whatever you are able to donate, would be greatly appreciated!

If you're interested in how this came about, please read on below:

The weekend of Oct. 27th, Jack started showing signs of what we thought was a normal UTI. He randomly started marking on the couch, on the bed.... and straining as he was doing it. This behavior was NEVER exhibited before in the 2 years we've had him. After asking for help from a neighbor, we were able to take him to the VCA pet clinic in Miami Beach. They ran tests on him and sent them to the lab... they couldn't deduce anything at the time other than a normal UTI, so they let him come back home the same day... However, the next day, he was still exhibiting more signs of severe frustration urinating almost anywhere, but his own litter box. He was then urgently taken to the VCA pet clinic again, where the tests they had done on him the day before showed he was positive for having Struvite crystals--basically the equivalent of kidney stones, but are microscopic and with a sand-like consistency. They held him overnight and advised that they needed to implant a catheter to help him pass his urine. They assured that he might need a a day or two to pass the crystals and if his condition improved, he would be able to come home.  After a few days, the staff advised that he was  passing a lot of urine via catheter and his condition was thought to have improved... however, when his catheter was subsequently removed for a day, Jack was still straining for almost 2 days. They had to re-implant another catheter the next day..... after all of this, all the doctors in the clinic agreed that the PU surgery was the last necessary resort... He was brought in on Oct. 31st and is now going on 2 weeks (and counting) at the VCA clinic.

He had the surgery at 10am, November 13th, thankfully without any complications. But faced with the sudden urgency of his condition and all medical costs piling up, we knew that we would not be able to cover the entire cost on our own.

Any donation small or large (or even just sharing) would really go a long way for us! Either way, we greatly appreciate any help we can get. <3
