Juniata Park Academy is a Title I neighborhood public school which services 1,185 students from kindergarten through eighth grade who all receive free meals daily. We are located in the Juniata Park neighborhood of Philadelphia. Our school’s mission is to create a safe and nurturing learning environment that celebrates diversity. We are a community who hold ourselves to high expectations in maintaining a culture of belonging, academic excellence, and innovation.
Our population consists of 67% Hispanic students, 11% African American students, 9% Asian students, 10% Multiracial students, and 3% Caucasian students. The results of 2017 Pennsylvania Standardized State Assessment (PSSA), indicate that only 36% of third graders scored proficient or advanced in English and Language Arts and only 33% of third graders scored proficient or advanced in Math.
Our vision at Juniata Park Academy is to empower one another to become resilient, inquiring, confident members of the global society. We are in need of a class set of chromebooks with updated accessories which will be used to build a strong foundation of skills in all content areas to enable our students to be competitors in this global society.
Due to the lack of funding, we have inadequate resources to provide our students with the tools they need to succeed. Our school does not have enough technology for our growing population of students, which requires us to share what little we have.
Additionally, most of the technology we have access to is out dated and does not meet the needs of our students.
Our school provides our students with iReady online interventions. “The iReady Diagnostic is backed by extensive validity research and consistently achieves industry-leading results when studied alongside rigorous assessments.” . . . research showed iReady Diagnostic to be highly correlated with, and an accurate predictor of results of . . . state assessments.”
Not having enough technology for our students to be able to access this quality intervention could lead to an increase of students performing below level on assessments and in overall learning.
The Neubauer Family Foundation has generously opened up their hearts and is matching all donations received so our students can have the technology they need to become successful life-long learners.
