Hello, my name is Joe and I am a happily married father of 4 children. I am a pharmacist curently looking to fullfill my dream of owning and working in an indepedent pharmacy.
I would love the opportunity to help patients without the burden of corporate metrics and policies. I'm fully commited to this path and will be risking my life savings to get started, but it's not enough. With as much personal risk I'm taking you can feel comfortable knowing I'm going to make my dream come true no matter the obstacles.
These guys depend on it.
Why I'm asking for your help:
I am starting this campaign to help raise the start-up capital to open a new independent pharmacy.
The location I have chosen is a rural city in Michigan that is a hub for a 3 county wide area and has a desperate need for a customer service oriented independent pharmacy. The community is home to a hospital with a cancer center and a dialysis center. Nearby outlying communities also have small community hospitals with emergency rooms.
There are currently 5 chain/grocery store pharmacies in the town but two of these pharmacies are expected to close or be consolidated within the coming years, leaving the patients with limited choice and increasing poor customer service and level of care. I've worked at one of the current pharmacies in town for 4+ years so I'm speaking from experience.
Patients currently have to wait hours for thier medications to be filled at some of the busy, high-volume chain pharmacies. They certainly don't get the one-on-one attention they deserve. Some individuals need extra time dedicated to them to be educated about thier medications and disease states.
What I want to do:
My number one goal is to provide a small-town, family feel to my pharmacy. I want everyone that walks through the door or pulls up to the drive thru to be known by name and feel they are getting the care the deserve.
Many of the residents are low income, elderly individuals that live in a rural setting so I would like to establish a door-to-door delivery service for these patients. In addition I want to set my pharmacy apart from the competition by providing services such as compounding, immunizations, Medication Therapy Management, disease state education, lactation support, durable medical supplies, veterinary medications, and other clinical services.
So why invest in me? I'm a passionate, deeply driven individual with my patients best interests at heart. I believe in QUALITY, PERSONALIZED care with the highest of customer service standards. This community once had an independent pharmacy until around 7 years ago when it closed it's doors and sold to a major chain. The patients deserve the exceptional service and high quality care that the chains and grocery store pharmacies can't provide. Consumer reports studies so consistently that independent pharmacies provide better service to their communities.
I need this startup capital to secure a Small Business Adminstration loan, purchase/lease equipment , building space, computers and software, supplies, starting inventory, startup services (web hosting, phone, and internet services), and initial payroll for employees until the companies can become cash flow positive.
How I'm going to pay it forward:
I pledge that every dollar donated to this campaign I will pay it forward 1.5x. I pledge that once the company is cash flow positive and profitable I will ensure that money is donated to reputable charities that help individuals afford their medications or healthcare expenses. I will also sponsor events at the local area schools and provide sponsorship for childrens sports teams. I will sponsor a scholarship or establish an endowment so that a person with financial need can afford to get an education in a health related field. These are just some of the ideas I have thought of to pay it forward.
