Isabel Sakir's Cancer Fighting Fund

Donation protected
Isabel was recently diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), a rare form of cancer. The tumor is in the bone above her left eye. Luckily the tumor was found early enough that the damage to the bone is minimal and with treatment, Isabel is expected to make a full recovery with little long term affects.

Isabel had a port surgically installed in her chest, under the skin and will start the chemo treatment on 9/16 and every Friday after for 6 to 12 weeks.  During the first 6 weeks, she will also be on a relatively high dose of steroids, which will taper off starting in the 4th week.
The treatments will change to once every 3 weeks after the 6 – 12 initial treatments.  They will do MRIs every 3 months, but every time she goes they will check blood and other vitals.  They will be able to get the blood and administer contrast from the port, so won’t require more IVs.  There is a high risk of infection, even though they are extremely careful, since it is a foreign object in her body which can attract bacteria.  If she ever gets a fever of 100.6 or higher for more than a day, she will have to be hospitalized.

This fundraiser will help pay the mounting medical bills and costs associated with extended time away from work for Christie and Steve taking care of Isabel. We all know how devastating an illness to our children can be, this can at least relieve  a portion of the financial burden.

Any funds raised beyond what is absolutely necessary for the care of Isabel will be donated to the Histiocytosis Association's Road to a Cure fund.
