Un Ironman 70.3 contre la leucémie

Comme certains d'entre vous le savent déjà, je participerai à mon premier demi-Ironman le 17 juin prochain, à Syracuse. C'est premièrement un grand défi personnel pour moi, et deuxièmement une occasion d'amasser des fonds pour une cause qui me tient à coeur. Tout à commencé quand ma petite cousine Dorothée à été diagnostiquée avec une leucémie en décembre 2015 lorsqu'elle était agée de 2 ans. Comme vous pouvez l'imaginer, ce fut une nouvelle très difficile à accepter pour tout son entourage. Malgré le choc, ses parents et ses proches sont restés forts et l'ont aidé à mener son combat. Dorothée resta incroyablement courageuse tout au long de son hospitalisation et des nombreuses interventions des médecins et infirmières. Après 4 mois de hauts et de bas, Dorothée avait officiellement combattu la leucémie et obtenait son congé! Suite à plus d'un an de rémission, on apprend en octobre 2017 que le cancer est de retour. Ce fut un choc pour tous d'apprendre cette nouvelle. Cette fois-ci, le traitement consiste en deux cycles de chimiothéraphie, suivi d'une greffe de moelle osseuse. Ces deux cycles de chimio sont maintenant derrière elle, elle passa au travers comme une vraie battante. La prochaine étape est celle de la greffe de moelle, qui débutera mi-janvier.
J'ai énormément de respect pour toutes les familles qui vivent de telles experiences. Certains organismes offrent beaucoup de soutient à toutes les personnes affectées directement ou indirectement par le cancer. La totalité des dons que je recueillerai seront versés à Leucan. Cette association a apporté beaucoup de soutient aux parents et aux proches de Dorothée. Elle appuie et accompagne les familles dans les moments les plus difficiles de leur vie. Leucan est aussi un des principaux financier des recherches en oncologie pédiatrique.
Comme vous pouvez comprendre, c'est une cause très importante pour ma famille et moi. Le 17 juin prochain, j'utiliserai toute mon énergie pour passer au travers cette épreuve sportive, mais mon coeur sera avec Dorothée, ses parents et ses proches, ainsi qu'avec tous les gens affectés par les cancers pédiatriques.

As some of you know, I will be participating in my first half Ironman in Syracuse on June 17th, 2018. It is a huge challenge for me, but also an opportunity to raise funds for a very important cause. It all started when my second cousin Dorothee was diagnosed with leukemia in December of 2015, when she was only 2 years old. As you can imagine, it was a very difficult news for her close ones to accept. Despite the shock, her parents and family stayed strong and helped her fight the battle. Dorothee was extremely courageous all along her stays at the hospital, through the numerous interventions of the doctors and nurses. After 4 months of ups and downs, Dorothee had officialy beaten leukemia and was discharged from the hospital. After more than one year of remission, we got horrible news in October of 2017, the cancer was back. It was once again an enormous shock for all of us. This time, the treatment consists of two rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant. The two cycles of chemo are behind Dorothee, she was strong and got through them like a warrior, as we knew she would. The next step is the bone marrow transplant, which will start mid-January of 2018.
I have a lot of respect for all the families that go through this kind of experience. Some organizations offer a lot of support to all the people who are affected directly or indirectly by cancer. The total amount that I will raise will be donated to Leucan. This association has provided a lot of support to Dorothee's parents and close ones. Leucan guides and helps families go through the hardest times of their lives. Leucan is also one of the main sources of financing for research in pedriatric oncology.
As you can understand, this cause is very important to my family and I. On June 17th, I will be using all of my physical energy to go through this triathlon, but my heart will be with Dorothee, her parents and close ones, as well as with all the people touched by pedriatric cancers.
