ISLP Study Abroad Trip: New Zealand

As a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, I have been invited to take part in the 2018 International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) Delegation on Engineering & Technology. This is, simply put, an INCREDIBLE opportunity for me to go on a 7+ day trip to either China or New Zealand to study many aspects of how certain engineering technologies are being/have been implemented in that country. I am aiming towards enrolling for the trip to New Zealand where I would be learning about engineering solutions for earthquakes and other natural disasters and ground-breaking engineering technologies for the digital age while in Christchurch as well as how to manage engineering projects while in Auckland among other things. There is also an optional 3-day cultural extension for the trip which takes place in Sydney, Australia where I would receive a guided tour of the Sydney Opera House among other things.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity does not come cheap however. Tuition for the trip, which includes all accommodations, meals, transportation (not to/from the country though), and tips and taxes, is set at $3495 and airfare to and from New Zealand would be around an additional $1600. The price for the extension is $1495 but I currently do not plan to attend the extension due to the extra expense.
The trip will be taking place from May 22 - May 29, 2018 and enrollment is due by March 9. I will be receiving a phone call from ISLP on January 31 as a checkup on funding progress.
Although traveling the globe has never necessarily been something I've considered doing (mainly because of the amount of traveling there is to be done here in the U.S. alone), I feel like turning away this opportunity because of the high cost without at least trying to gather some funding for it first would be a tremendous waste.
