Ross4Detroit: Impact Challenge 2016

Donation protected
Detroit is a city in the midst of revitalization. The food system is a key component of these efforts and entrepreneurs are tackling these issues within the community thanks to FoodPLUS Detroit and FoodLab Detroit.

Detroit Ento, We Will Cook For You and Cynt-Sational Popcorn Co.   are three companies that have benefited from these organizations.  You can hear some of their first hand experiences in the video above.

The funds we raise will go to helping FoodPLUS Detroit and FoodLab Detroit solve some of the following pressing issues:

1.    How to increase access to fresh, healthy, and affordable foods.
2.    How to improve efficiency of the food system by increasing good food utilization and reducing waste.
3.    How to positively influence dietary choices made by consumers.

FoodPLUS is accelerating innovation in the food space in Detroit.  Their mission is to facilitate and accelerate a more sustainable metropolitan food system. By engaging in innovation, research, experimentation and learning, they endeavor to help create a system that is socially just, resource efficient, economically prosperous and globally connected.

FoodLab is a collection of over 200 companies in the Detroit area focused on triple bottom line business models. (A focus on maximizing social responsibility, environmental impact, and economic value.) FoodLab is a diverse group of locally-owned food businesses -- caterers, bakers, picklers, distributors, corner stores, cafes -- who support each other in the process of growing and improving our individual businesses, and who are committed to taking active steps together towards a more delicious, healthy, fair, and green food economy in Detroit.

What is the Impact Challenge?

The Impact Challenge seeks to create a profitable venture with a social mission in Detroit. It includes a series of workshops, community conversations, team challenges, and pitch competitions that engage more than 1,500 students. Built into the process are awareness-building activities, feedback mechanisms, and reflection sessions designed to maximize each student's leadership development.

While working to develop a solution to these issues, Ross students met many stakeholders and members of the Detroit community that are already working to address these problems.  This GoFundMe is intended to support the community partners of this impact challenge, FoodPLUS Detroit and FoodLab, while furthering their education and support of businesses focused on improving the food waste/access sphere in Metro Detroit.
