The Foreign Press Foundation

MISSION:

A team of international journalists, filmmakers, and logistics experts will support disaster relief efforts utilizing their networks to sponsor the provision, transportation, and distribution of the essential supplies requested by the authorities.

David Michaels, President of the Foreign Press Association in the United States stated, "Journalists should also be embedded with the relief teams, reporting and recording everything going on with the disaster relief efforts. Sponsors and contributors to the relief fund will see their contributions at work from start to finish, providing key evidence of transparency, thus providing a record of events that could assist in the avoidance of errors being repeated in future disaster relief, and as an educational tool in the "learning-curve" of disaster relief administration and logistics."

Many thanks to all who supported our initiative with the resources they could provide, be it money, ideas, and precious time.

The Foreign Press Foundation's effort was educational and productive. We experienced the full spectrum of the human race's activities and motivations, from the priceless experience of humanitarian selfless effort, to the sadness of selfish political and bureaucratic waste.

For now, we will close the fund raising component of the initiative.

Thank you again.

Foreign Press Foundation announces Disaster Relief Initiative

With the recent weather related events in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico, Dominica and around the globe, relief efforts are still not what both donors and disaster victims should expect. We reviewed the facts and will now redirect efforts to where we can best use our capabilities and resources.

The Foreign Press Association in the United States has announced an initiative to embed international photo and video journalists with international disaster relief and logistics teams. Sponsors and contributors to relief funds will be able to see their important contributions at work from start to finish.

"Disaster relief is a humanitarian matter. It should not be ‘owned’ by any country or organization. There is too much of a costly ‘territorial’ and sometimes, political mindset involved with disaster relief,” stated David P. Michaels, President of the Foreign Press Association in the United States. He continued, “International photo and video journalists can be embedded with the relief teams, reporting and recording everything going on with the disaster relief efforts. This will provide key evidence of levels of ‘transparency’ and a record of events that could assist in the avoidance of ‘errors’ being repeated in future disaster relief, and as an educational tool in the ‘learning-curve’ of disaster relief administration and logistics."

David Michaels added, “Journalists are an ‘endangered species,’ and they do need some form of international credentials with appropriate and globally recognized, (and respected), protections. The FPA Foundation will also will be seeking financial and logistic support to have journalists professionally trained in disaster survival skills, and appropriately equipped for assignments in hazardous zones.”

Thank you for your support.
