New Air Conditioner Unit

$2,950 of $13,000 goal

Raised by 17 people in 17 months
Holy Covenant MCC was founded on May 30, 1975, and is a part of the Metropolitan Community Church. We are a small congregation that moved out of a rental in another church and bought the oldest church in Brookfield, IL, with donations from church members who left the church money when they passed. Congregants spent many long hours transforming the church into a viable Christian community, cementing and tiling the dirt basement floor, building offices, painting walls and trim, constructing new stairs, and installing a kitchen.

The purchase of the church building also included the boiler and the air conditioning unit. Many times over the years we experienced issues with our boiler, though it normally could be repaired. However, in early 2017, it stopped putting out heat. We hired an HVAC company and learned that it was leaking carbon monoxide in very high concentrations. By law, the HVAC company was compelled to shut down the boiler and inform us to replace it.

This is where you come in. We need your help in securing enough money to pay for the boiler. We have received quotes from five companies and the average estimate is approximately $15,000 total for both the boiler which is $8,000 and air conditioning unit $7,000 which is coming to the end of its useful life. We have our return units in our attic so besides replacing the boiler downstairs, they have to work way up in our steeple. It is quite a lot of work that the HVAC has to do to get everything working again for us so our costs are a lot higher.

Unfortunately, that cost is way beyond what our small congregation can give. We are a church that lives from the generosity of our congregants, along with many other types of fundraisers like dances, garage sales, and other events. Our building is also used for AA meetings seven days a week, once a day except for Saturday which is twice a day.

As a church, we are very active in the Christian community. Once a month, we feed the poor and homeless in Chicago meeting the Night Ministry bus. We cook and feed those that stay in a homeless shelter in Oak Park, in addition to donating and volunteering at the Share Food, Share Love food pantry in Brookfield. We work with other churches in La Grange and Brookfield and in interfaith groups such as BEDS Plus, Pillars and the LaGrange/Brookfield Ministerial Alliance.

With your help, we can continue our ministries to those in need, not only of shelter and nourishment, but of a friendly face, a welcoming place to worship, a safe  space to be who God intended them to be As Matthew quotes Jesus, “ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me…whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Please consider donating so that we can replace the boiler before cold weather. We are a very prayerful congregation and will be praying for everyone.

Thank You

Today is Giving Tuesday and we are respectfully asking if you would consider giving to our need for a new air conditioning unit for our church. You were very generous with giving for our boiler, but now our AC needs to be replaced.

Every little bit helps us get to that goal. Thank you and God Bless!

In September we were able to have our new boiler installed and have heat in our church. Thank you for helping us raise enough money with your donations.

We now need to replace our air conditioning unit which consists of the outside AC part and the workings inside of our building in our attic.

The estimated cost of a new AC is about $10,000. The reason it being so much is that the work that has to be done in the attic to bring up other parts that are needed to cool our building. The steeple part of our church is so high and the machinery is so heavy that the AC company needs to bring in a jack that can be raised to the opening to bring up the machinery and the workers.

While it is getting colder out, we will need the new AC unit by next Spring/Summer to keep our congregation cool.

We are asking you, the person reading this, to help us out with a donation. We already raised the $2,950 and that was used for the boiler, but we still need another $10,000 for the new AC.

Thank you for all you can contribute to our church. We are an open and affirming church and our doors are welcome beacons for all to enter a safe place to worship.

Yesterday was a big day for our church and congregation and it was all because of you, the people who donated through Go Fund Me and in our congregation, Yes, we had our new boiler put in on 9/15 and our church now has heat! We thank everyone who gave to our boiler fund and made this possible

Our next goal is to raise enough money to replace our old worn out air conditioning unit. We hope to get that replaced sometime next year and if you feel so moved to donate to it, we would be very thankful for it. Thank you again, everyone, for making this happen for us! We will keep you in our prayers.
