Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program
Donation protected
We are a deaf and hard of hearing program serving students ages 3-12 (pre-school to 6th grade). We have a mix of students who are oral, utilizing cochlear implants and hearing aids, as well students that use american sign language. 70% of our students come from low-income families and qualify for free lunch. As teachers we do our best to support all our families with the challenges that hearing loss presents. We visit families to make sure they are supported at home whether that be teaching them sign language or assisting them with appointments and hearing technologies. Our community recently experienced great loss due to wildfires. We were out of school for three weeks and sadly lost our satellite campus and many students' homes. We always tell our families how important it is to get out and experience the world and life as a whole. We remind our students that their hearing loss does not preclude them from anything in life. Field-trips provide our students with such rich language experiences. We want our students to experience the world and community around us. We are looking to utilize this money for future trips to places like to the Oakland/San Fransisco zoo.
