Helping At-Risk Youth Workout!

Donation protected
As you know, physical activity provides numerous psychological and physical health benefits for people of all ages. However, physical activity levels among adolescents has declined over the past few decades. Adolescents from lower income backgrounds are at higher risk of insufficient levels of physical activity, decreased levels of fitness, decreased adherence to exercise interventions, and increased risk for poor health, all of which are particularly problematic given that health behaviors created during adolescence continue into adulthood.

Effective interventions aimed at improving engagement in physical activity and adherence to healthy lifestyle changes are vital during adolescence. High intensity interval training (HIIT) has recently been established as a beneficial intervention for adolescents, as it offers  increased levels of adherence and a low cost. We are building a pilot HITT program for adolescents at The Cove in Waco, which is a non-profit that targets adolescents from low socioeconomic status backgrounds who experience homelessness. Adolescents who attend The Cove's after school program will have the opportunity to be coached and mentored by Katie!

Help us provide an exercise program for adolescents at The Cove! Funds will be used to purchase the following:
§  Workout equipment that is easily transportable
(dumbbells, kettlebells, yoga mats, boxes, etc.)
      § Workout clothes
      § Rewards and incentives
      § Snacks and water

Thank you!
