Help Police Brutality Victim to Recover

A 58-year old man who committed no crime was nearly beaten to death by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers. His story was shown on NBC News: www.bit.ly/NBC_Investigation_Report_Police_Brutality

On September 2nd, 2011 his life changed forever. Olegs Kozacenko, a Berkeley resident, was heading home on I-80 after a long haul across country when he was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol vehicle near Lake Tahoe. He was working as a long haul truck driver.

220-pound CHP officer Andrew P. Murrill, a licensed fist boxer, along with 190-pound fellow CHP officer Jim Sherman stopped Olegs Kozacenko. Officer Murrill nearly beat to death 165-pound 58-year old Kozacenko because Olegs wanted to read a traffic ticket that the officer wrote. The ticket should never have been issued in the first place, as officer Murrill did not know the law.

He suffered life-threatening injuries including a crushed left orbital eye socket, multiple facial fractures, a broken left arm, broken ribs, compressive asphyxia, a concussion, unconsciousness and brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder. The officers also used a taser on him.

But, as Steven Stokes, investigative reporter with NBC Bay Area News, states "The officers are still on duty". If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone.

Olegs has 2 Master's degrees, but now he became disabled and has no income. His medical bills are piling up. He needs money for inpatient rehabilitation, facial reconstruction surgery, and for living expenses.

Please help him with anything you can give to rebuild his and his family life. Thank you for your caring generosity.
