House Lost In Louisiana Flood
On August 13th, 2016, the Amite River hit an unprecedented 46.2 Feet of water. 90% of Denham Springs, LA and a lot of South Baton Rouge, LA fell under water, causing untold amounts of damage to property in the surrounding areas.
My house was in that area. We took on a total of 4 1/2 Feet of water in the house, destroying the entire contents of the first floor. In our case, my sister, the owner of the house, did have flood insurance and is able to renovate the house to a liveable condition. However, she is not wanting to possess the property any more after the flood loss so she can cut her losses.
With her selling the property, my girlfriend, her daughter, and I will no longer have a place to live.
I am raising funds to purchase the property from my sister, post-renovation, and finally have a place that I own and can call home. At current estimates, the townhouse will cost a total of $100,000. Included in the mortgage price would be Homeowner's Insurance, Flood Insurance, et all, payable over a period of 30 years. I am wanting to raise money to help me purchase the house and place a standard 20% down payment to begin with.
Financial donations made to this GoFundMe will not be withdrawn to my personal account until the donation goal is met.
Any donations help, and God Bless you all.
It has been quite some time since my last update. I will do my best to cover the bases of what has happened since.
I am in the process of getting pre-approved for a mortgage. I'm not sure how much they will approve me for, certainly without having a higher down payment available. I can only cross fingers that I can get approved for the amount for the house.
Construction on the house... Was supposed to happen just before Thanksgiving. However, the neighbor connected to the townhouse has yet to take down their molded sheetrock, so the contractor cannot even begin. Had all of that been done beforehand, we would have been moving into the house a week ago. Because of all of this, we have to wait to see if they come back or wait for Abandonment Laws to happen to do the teardown ourselves.
Christmas has been put on a hold for my family and friends as I am trying to store away as much money as I can for this down payment. I know it's depressing to my girlfriend and daughter, and I hope they understand that instead of gifts, I want to give them a house for Christmas.
As it being so... This will probably be the second to last update on this campaign. I will be closing it on December 31st. The donations have stopped coming in, and unless there is some kind of Christmas Miracle, it seems that this campaign is stagnant.
For all of you who have donated, I hope you have a Merry Christmas. My God bless you all.
As I continue to move towards this two week update period, it gives me a chance to reflect on everything that has happened so far in the past few weeks.
It infuriates me every time I read the local news concerning the flood. There are people still waiting for FEMA trailers, Red Cross has all but left, and there are still many people homeless and unable to return to their residences. The "Shelter At Home" program instituted by the State has been a massive failure at what it provides to those eligible.
Again, I'm not eligible for any support by the government, either State or Federal, in any way.
They have finally begun to remove the debris in front of our subdivision! However, any signs of life in our area is so miniscule it seems like a ghost town. A bit eerie if you ask.
On the job front, I'm still sticking resumes out to businesses for a better opportunity, but nothing seems to be out there. I've continued working for my job because a lack of income would be detrimental to my future plans.
I have been putting aside money every month to plan on purchasing a home, but at the current rate of income, it will take me a total of 2 years to arrive at that point. I honestly don't know if the people I'm living with can tolerate that kind of term.
A heart felt thanks go out to all of you who have donated to the campaign. Thanks to your help, we have reduced the number of months I will be without a home by 2-3 months. Blessings to you all. I pray that eventually I will hit the goal of $20,000 for the down payment of a home for me, my daughter, and my girlfriend.
Bless you all, and continue to share the campaign around!
An offer was made to my sister to purchase the home from her, someone counter-offered a better deal, and she took it. With my current job, there is no way that I can afford purchasing a new house until 2 years from now. And no amount of temporary housing can help in this situation.
FEMA has denied me a total of 3 times because I am in that range of either making too much money over the poverty line or making too little money to qualify for a SBA loan.
I have been spending the last 2 weeks applying for every job in the world, but with the economic situation here in Louisiana, companies are not hiring. I have been given a 200 mile radius from what was home to search for new living quarters by my girlfriend, and have also applied for jobs in each area. So far, out of 600 applications, I have only heard back from 2 of them. I have not quit my prior job as I said that I would, due to not having found another job, therefore there would not be a lack of income.
So I, again, reach out to the community. Please help. I have lost all hope in everything.
I will keep everyone up to date with any ongoings soon enough. Continue to keep me in your prayers and keep spreading the word around. Maybe, just maybe, we might be able to get me somewhere to live.
i may not have the money but i will share and you know i am here if you need to talk
