I was a successful sales professional, president of the Board of Directors of a local charity, church deacon, and active in my community. Then on July 2013 I got sick with what the doctors diagnosed as pneumonia. It took a month to recover before I was able to return to work. Before I was able to resume a full-time schedule I started feeling fatigued, experienced chest pain, and shortness of breath.

I was referred to numerous specialists including a pulmonologist, cardiologist, sleep doctor, and allergy specialist. In addition I was sent to Duke medical center twice. After numerous tests, scans, bloodwork, and one heart medical procedure the doctors could find nothing wrong. Yet my symptoms continued. It was almost a year before I was finally diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I was informed that this disease has no cure and no treatment.

Before I got sick I worked 50+ hours a week, was active in my community and church, and enjoyed recreational past times like kayaking, Yoga, and boxing. Now I am limited to one or two hours of light activity a day. That is on a good day. Any physical activity causes chest pain and shortness of breath. I often use a cane when walking because I can quickly become light-headed or dizzy and fall down. If I exceed the limitations caused by my illness the symptoms increase to the point of complete inability to do anything and can last up to a week at a time.

It has been a year and a half since this ordeal started. I have used all of my short-term disability insurance, savings, and even my retirement fund to meet my financial obligations. I have applied for permanent disability through the government and am waiting for their decision. In the meantime I still have rent, medical insurance, bills and of course food to pay for and am unable to earn an income.

Your generous donation will help me continue to meet my financial obligations until Social security disability is approved. This is difficult for me because I have always been able to provide for myself. I have always felt blessed and have given of my time and finances to help others. Now I am in a position where I can not provide for myself and must ask for help.

Thank you for donation. It is truly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Corey
