On Wednesday, July 20th, my cousin, Amber, was loading her two young children into the car in her drive way when suddenly she hard her young son screaming out in pain.
As as she made her way around the car, nothing could prepare her for what she saw. Grayson, 3 years old, was being viciously mauled by a pitbull that broke off its leash.
Amber did what any mother would do- she somehow (miraculously) was able to pry open the dogs mouth to allow Grayson to go free. His big sister was witness to all this and was able to escape to a neighbors house. Unaware if her children were in complete safety, Amber held on to the dog as he continued his unprovoked attack. A friend was close by and able to call police for assistance and helped save Amber's life, too.
Grayson has numerous stitches and is being followed by a hand surgeon for possible future repairs. There is no question that if Amber was not present, this sweet boy would have been taken from us.
Amber received exstensive damage from the bites, including: nerve damage to her hand, lacerations on her chest, arms, and thighs- all of which could require surgery. She also had to receive numerous stitches and is in extreme pain. Most recently she was readmitted to the hospital for severe pain and infection.
Amber is is an amazing woman, who gives selflessly for her family and children. She will be out of work for a prolonged period of time to allow for healing and additional surgeries.
The funds collected here will be used directly by Amber and her family to help cover the cost of both hers and Grayson's mounting medical bills, future surgeries, physical therapy, counseling, and to help provide for her children while she is out of work and recovering.
