Healthcare FundFor Stacy Kahn Smith

Stacey Kahn Smith is my wonderful childhood friend from Needham, Ma and was diagnosed with breast cancer when her kids were young. She is a well known former member of the Needham Community and single mother of three. Her twin boys just turned 11 last month and her daughter turned 12. Stacy currently resides in Natick, Ma and is going through a terrible struggle of not only trying to just get better from cancer but simultaneously treating her son Dylan who a has a severe deficiency in his immune system. His body does not produce the antibodies necessary to fight off infections. As a result, he requires weekly infusions that are very expensive

Stacey currently needs more treament to stay cancer free and needs assitance to get out of the debt she has incurred. It is an ongoing battle and she needs our help. This is bigger than one person can handle.  She needs money to tackle the debt and to pay for upcoming treatments since insurance keeps dropping her.

Here is her journey so far:

Stacey had cancer 3 times, 6 surgeries along with treatment and beat it after almost 3 years of fighting.

She last came out of remission and was cancer free until this year. She has a mass in her breast that a biopsy came back inconclusive on. It is deep so no formal surgery has been done to remove it yet.

While dealing with that, her doctors found a completely different type of cancer, not in the breast, but in the tissue of her chest wall. It is called malignant fibrous histiocytoma. It grows in tissue so can spread throughout her body and/or into the bones.

Two surgeries were performed to literally dissect the chest wall to remove it. While her physicians are confident they got all cancer from that location, they are still unsure if it originated in that location or has spread and is somewhere else in Stacey's body.

Stacey is currently unemployed but was self employed since 2009. As a result, she had been on a Massachusetts health insurance plan since she didn't have insurance through an employer.

Since being diagnosed this time,  her provider dropped her insurance several times with no notice and for no reason. Stacey has had to fight like crazy as well as cancel several procedures.

Currently Stacey has been dropped again and she is scheduled for several procedures and surgery again in a couple of weeks. Stacey was contacted on Friday 4/21/17 by the hospital telling her that until she gets things sorted out with insurance, all her upcoming appointments, tests and procedures would be put on hold. Additionally, her health insurance has also denied requests for some expensive tests that would give her a great deal of information and have also denied requests for chemotherapy. A little over a year ago and she was told that they were covered 100%.

A few months ago Stacey started receiving bills for thousands of dollars. Right now, it is somewhere around $30,000 and she is being told they never agreed to pay these. The bills keep arriving and every month Stacey has to fight for the infusions to continue for her son, in the meanwhile they keep shutting her off!!

Please give anything you can and remember to count your blessings.

Remember this is a combined effort so even as little as $10.00 can help her and her family.
