HeadHealth funds, designs, and implements quality, evidence-based global mental health programs so as to help address the gap in humanitarian services that emphasize the mental health needs of some of the most vulnerable people in our world. HeadHealth is an organization dedicated to encouraging growth, progression, and healing for global citizens with limited resources, but infinitie potential.
Our current Mental Health Project Needs FUNDING!
-What? HeadHealth will facilitate various workshops and therapeutic activities while using the sensibly designed, culturally and linguistically appropriate therapeutic tools/program designed by HeadHealth's clinicians
-Who? Syrian children struggling with the mental health implications of their war-time trauma.
-Where? Syrian Regugee Camps- Jordan
-When? March 2017
-Why? So as to instill in these children, evidence-based coping strategies aimed at reducing the consequences of war-trauma that, for many, have negatively imacted individual, familial, and societal health.
The Goal:
Initially, $10,000 towards the design and implementation of the mental health program.
How Will Funds Be Put To Use?
HeadHealth's team will design a mental health program with evidence-based resources/tools and will implement this program by traveling to Syrian Refugee camps in Jordan. HeadHealth will facilitate workshops and therapeutic training/psychoeducation to 1,000 Syrian children during a week-long event. HeadHealth will provide theraeutic toys and activity resources as well as lunch to all children taking part in the event. HeadHealth will also train several local professionals so as to ensure a long-term, self-sufficient means of addressing mental health concerns in this population.
The Research:
-A significant relationships between war/trauma and pathology (PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, etc) exists.
*Impacts on Individuals- persistent levels of childhood trauma actually changes physiology, something that impacts medical and mental heath. Children who are exposed to trauma in very high doses have triple the lifetime risk of heart disease and lung cancer and a 20-year difference in life expectancy!
*Societal/Regional/Global Imoact- A vicious cycle of violence is being fed by the consequences of ignored trauma-related mental health pathology (increase in violence, increase in aggression, increases in domestic violence, etcetera).
The Founder of HeadHealth:
The founder of HeadHealth, Wajdi Fakhoury is a mental health clinician, researcher, and avid traveler with a passion for developing and implementing quality, culturally and linguistically appropriate, evidence-based psychological and educational resources that encourage mental health. Wajdi has a master's degree in Marriage and Family Psychotherapy and is currently a doctoral candidate researching the role of cognition in the development of successful mental health treatment programs.
This campaign is a personal fundraising effort supporting Wajdi Fakhoury's efforts to facilitate a large scale relief effort for children of the Syrian conflict! -My name is Wajdi Fakhoury, Founder and Clinical Program Designer at HeadHealth, an organization dedicated to funding, designing, and implementing global mental health programs.
2. My relationship with the parties for whom I am raising funds for and method of contat with them:
-I am the Founder and Clinical Program Designer at HeadHealth. I am desiging evidence-based, culturally/linguistically appropriate mental health services for Syrian children struggling with war-time trauma. I will be facilitating mental health treatment programs for these children in March 2017 in Jordan. I will also be training local professionals so as to facilitate the long-term and sustainability of mental health programs in the region.
3. How will the funds be spent?
-Designing the program, resources for implementation of the program including facility costs, therapy supplies, therapeutic toys/activities, lunch for the children during the program and training resources/packets for local professionals and travel costs for 1 HeadHealth staff member (Wajdi Fakhoury, MA, IMFT in his role as Clinician and Clinical Trainer).
4. Specific plan for how the funds will be withdrawn from and sent to the beneficiary of the campaign:
-Wajdi Fakhoury, Founder of HeadHealth will be responsible and liable for managing and recording where all funds raised in this campaign will go, specifically for HeadHealth's Syrian Mental Health Project. Specifically, Wajdi Fakhoury will be liable for ensuring that the funds be spent soley on the design, and implementation/execution of the mental health project outlined above. Funds will be withdrawn by Wajdi Fakhoury, MA, IMFT in his role as Founder and Clinical Program Designer and will be used to purchase supplies/resources that will be used specifically for the mental health program outlined above. For instance, funds will be spent on purchasing resources/supplies including psychotherapeutic toys, activity resources, etcetera. Funds will also be spent on safe and appropriate facilities that will house the mental health program/workshops as well as lunch for the children participating in the program, etcetera.
