Joseph's Cleft Palate Repair

Recently UNiTED was sought by a local mother who is in need of medical help for her 3 month old boy. Her son, Joseph, was born with a cleft palate: a split in the roof of his mouth that is extensive and if unattended to may prove to be life threatening. Due to a income that narrowly supports this single mother and her three children, she is forced to request assistance in both knowledge and funding. UNiTED together with our partners, volunteers, and network have the knowledge to provide Joseph with the medical attention he requires, and we are asking for assistance to be able to also provide the financial means to help this mother and son.  Unfortunately Joseph’s cleft palate has rendered him mostly unable to breastfeed leaving him malnourished and underweight at 4.1kg. Due to his current physical state Joseph is undergoing nutritional rehabilitation at HardtHaven Children’s Home and UNiTED has taken steps to provide the mother with a breast milk pump in hopes to begin to build Joseph’s strength before an expected surgical procedure to repair the congenital defect. We are asking for any assistance, financial as well as medical resources, to provide to Joseph and his mother.
