Hank The Mastiff

Hank is a rescue that is known by many. He has now had 2 eye surgeries to help his cherry eyes. Although his tear ducts have been removed, it's been found that he also has everted third eyelids and his cartilage isn't formed properly causing inflamed and infected eye tissue. This does cause him discomfort. He now needs to see another specialist to help this issue which means another surgery.

Hank has been through so much already it breaks my heart and I'm sure it breaks yours too.

He had his second eye surgery on the 22/10/2019. As a result of a complicated surgery, he currently can't see and it's all so swollen and inflamed.

Hank so far has been desexed, vaccinated, wormed, pre surgery bloods and 2 eye surgeries. That means he has had 3 surgeries in 3 months. That's a lot for a dog to handle. So far it's around 4. 5 grand total in bills and more bills to come.

As his voice, I'm asking once again for you to PLEASE donate towards his next surgery. He needs it sooner rather than later.

His story:

Hank was rescued on the 12/06/2019 from a life of being chained, beaten and starved. He would often break off the chain and take himself for a walk which is how i came to meet him. I was very worried about his living conditions and how he was being treated. The public had told me stories of how they had witnessed the owner beating him, hardly being able to move because he had wrapped himself around the chain and on objects, being left like that for days and he couldn't reach the kennel they had out for him. Leaving him out on severely hot days and during storms, constant RSPCA reports and they were witnessing his weight drop. They wanted him to have a better life and so did i. I knew i had to take action to help him.. A friend of mine helped me get a plan in place and 2 weeks after initially meeting Hank she convinced the owner to sell him. We fundraised the money in 24 hours!!! We picked Hank up a few days later.

Hank was emaciated, even more so than when i had seen him 2 weeks prior. Hardly any muscle mass and he weighed a mere 45 kilos. For a Neopolitan Mastiff he should be between 60-80 kilos or even more. He needed a lot of vet work done. He had also suffered for a minimum of 2 years with Cherry Eyes and Scrolled Cartilage which causes Everted Third Eyelids. Causing him a lot of discomfort, swelling and took majority of his vision.

3 month's on and he's 57 kilos.

I had to do 4 small meals a day as his body was in starvation mode.

I socialised him with other dogs, took him to dog parks and even the beach!!

He still needs a lot of ongoing training due to behavioural issues but Hank is now living life to the fullest. He is the most loving dog you'll ever meet. He LOVES people and other dogs. He even thinks he's a lap dog. He amazes me and doesn't stop making me proud.

 

With the publics help and my savings we got Hank most of his vet work!!
