Please help Taupe

Our lovely straight-coated Selkirk Rex, Taupe, recently had a medical emergency. Followers of Helping Persian Cats rescue will remember that we rescued Taupe and his friend Trevor from a Southern California shelter several months ago. Last week, Taupe needed emergency surgery for a large abdominal abscess which caused severe tissue damage and required the removal of a large area of tissue on his abdomen.  One of Taupe’s legs was also affected, and unfortunately, this wound had to be left open due to a lack of healthy tissue on the leg. 

Taupe’s surgery was more extensive than expected, but thankfully, he is doing well and is expected to be released from the hospital next week.  His post-surgical care will require continued bandage changes for the wound on his leg by the veterinarian every two days, and possible additional stitching as his surgical sites continue to heal.  He is on pain medication and antibiotics.

We are so relieved that Taupe is expected to make a full healing and full use of his leg, but his recovery will be lengthy. We know that he will be grateful to be back in his foster home with his kitty friend Trevor. When he is fully recovered, we will resume seeking an adopter for this sweet bonded pair.

Saving Taupe comes at a high cost. Even with our rescue discount, his surgery and follow up care will exceed $2000, which is a very large amount for our small non-profit rescue to manage.
