Thank you for your commitment for the betterment and well-being of youth. We thank you for partnering with us for our “Taking Out HEROin Addiction” campaign. The official launch of this campaign will be early April 2016.

Our campaign is formulated to provide preventive information, programs and resources in the classroom and community for our youth, parents and community members that support them. You are vital to our success of this campaign because of your strong and devoted commitment to the well-being of the youth in your local and neighboring communities.

                                    Why we need your help

We are experiencing the imminent impact of heroin use & abuse and addiction epidemic in our country. This is something that we must promptly and strategically take action against, using effective preventative measures. According to the Trust for America’s Health report, the nationwide drug overdose death rate has more than doubled during the past decade among people aged 12 to 25, rising from 3.1 deaths per 100,000 in 1999-2001 to 7.3 deaths in 2011-2013. Heroine is an opiate. Opiates are used in the medical field for a variety of reasons, including pain management and pain relief. When used properly for medicinal purposes, opiates like Vicodin can be very effective. However, this very common pain management drug can become very addictive, which can create a psychological, physiological and physical dependence. Heroin is an illicit drug and is never used for medical purposes. It has been created for the sole purposes of creating a sensation or a “high” that has been described by many users, as a feeling that can’t be described. “The rise of heroin and other opiates is one explanation for the decreased use of other substances. Some other illicit drugs, like cocaine and methamphetamine, have become less popular”, said Jeff Levi, executive director of Trust for America’s Health. In most cases, youth who become addicted to heroin, typically do not start their experimentation or initial drug use with heroin. Unfortunately, the accessibility and affordability of heroine has made it become a very popular choice for youth. Youth are not able to understand the long term effect and dangers that heroin use & abuse can lead them to. Heroin is a highly addictive opiate that can cause both short- and long-term harm to any individual who engages in its use or abuse.

                             Jazzmin Wesley -Brown

The official spokeswoman for "Taking Our HEROin Addiction" campaign  is Jazzmin Wesley-Brown, a 23-year-old young woman who fell under the spell of drugs and alcohol until she eventually found herself fighting for her life after a heroin overdose. The overdose also left her a quadriplegic, and Brown has since dedicated her life to doing two things. The first mission is to walk again, and the second is to be a voice of deterrence for youth who may find themselves in a dark situation similar to where she once was.

“It is exciting to work with a group of selfless people like those at The Morlon Greenwood Foundation Inc.,” “They are not only taking an interest in this cause, but also actively participating in being part of the development in the most encouraging ways for our most valuable resource, which is our youth.

“As a young man, I grew up in the inner city in a drug-infested environment,” “As an adult, I have the privilege of working with youth on a daily basis. I have personally witnessed the effects of drug use, abuse and addiction. But never have I seen a drug, such as heroin, claim the lives of so many, regardless of age, race or socioeconomic status. Heroin has no respect of person. It is powerful, it is accessible, and it is affordable. If we do not do something to combat this epidemic, the whole nation will suffer!” -Tyrell Zimmerman
