Grieving Behind the Badge

"Help us teach first responders how to cope with traumatic grief following a line of duty or non-duty related death."

The Sweeney Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving North America. Since 1990, we have taught specialized programs about coping with traumatic loss and grief for public safety officers and emergency response professionals and their families following a tragic or unexpected death within their department.

After the funeral and pomp and ceremonies of remembering the life of a first responder who has died, most people return to what was once a normal life. For the men and women within the department, the pain of grief can be overwhelming. Because most departments do not have protocols in place to offer bereavement education and resources to cope with trauma and grief, the Sweeney Alliance provides on-site education on these topics through Grieving Behind the Badge.
