Last spring, The Discovery Orchestra provided bus transportation and concert tickets to students, family members and staff from the El Sistema-inspired Paterson Music Project . Due to the successful experience of the PMP attendees, we are expanding our outreach to student groups of young musicians this season.
In fact, with a donation from the Marotta Family Foundation Fund, we provided bus transportation and tickets for students from the Franklin L. Williams Middle School #7 (part of the Jersey City Public Schools) and from ArtSmart in Newark to attend our recent Discover the GrooveBarbers concert at Drew University on November 19th.
In order to provide the transportation and tickets for the Franklin Williams Middle School, ArtSmart and the Paterson Music Project groups to attend our upcoming February 25th and April 29th Discovery Concerts, we are looking to match the Marotta Family Foundation’s gift of $500 by December 20th. Here’s what our outreach partners have shared about their experiences so far:
"Thank you so much for the opportunity to attend the Discovery Concert today. The students and parents really enjoyed the performance and interactive listening. They were answering the questions and making connections with their study at PMP. One bass student got to talk with the orchestra bassist and play her instrument! By providing a bus, you removed the barrier of getting to the event, which can be challenging."
