Move Giovanna to Italy!

My visa has run out and the job market in Britain is bleak. Most employers don’t want to go through the paperwork of hiring a foreigner and it’s hard to blame them with the conservative government being the way it is. My best plan of action is to go east to Italy. There I can continue writing, do consulting work, and also work on getting my Italian citizenship. Right now I am living on my savings and moving takes money, not to mention that I am also paying off student loans.
My time won’t be spent just hanging out. I have a lot of articles to write, both based on my thesis and on the work I did with the Staffordshire Hoard. While these won’t pay the rent, they will serve to get my name in print and make me more marketable in the job world. I can also work teaching English and proofreading while in Italy. I also do archaeological consulting. Unfortunately I can’t be paid for it while I am in the UK, but I can be paid if I am outside the UK. Confusing, right? Sadly, as much as I love living here, the only practical choice I have is to leave.
My plan is that I’ll continue to look for a job in Britain or get the funding for the postdoc I’m working on and return to the UK with a brand new visa. But for now the goal is to get me relocated to Italy in November.
