Gilberto Aguilar/son/brother/father

On September 2, 2018, Gilberto checked in to the emergency room of a hospital located in Arizona complaining of a strong stomach pain. There he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and was given medication for his pain. They told him he would have to stay overnight for observation. While he waited he went into cardiac arrest and was admitted into the intense critical unit (ICU). Gilberto had four cardiac arrests that night. His brain was without oxygen for a sum of thirty minutes causing severe damage to his brain. The medical staff predicted he would not make it through the first night in the ICU and suggested to the family to let Gilberto go in peace with comfort care. Despite what the doctors said the family decided not to give up on Gilberto and waited to see if Gilberto responded positively to treatment. After two weeks in the ICU Gilberto slowly started showing progress. Only two options were given to the family by doctors, unplug Gilberto from life support or insert a breathing and feeding tube. On September 15, 2018, doctors performed a tracheotomy and inserted a feeding tube. The medical staff says he will need long-term care after he is released from the hospital. He has no insurance and will need help with medical finances. He is a Washington state resident where he and all his immediate family reside. They are currently looking for aftercare options in Washington state for when he is discharged from the hospital in Arizona. Gilberto has a one-year-old son and huge heartbroken family hoping and patiently waiting for a full recovery. His family and the hospital social workers have been working together to find the best option for Gilberto’s aftercare plan. His family is more than willing to pitch in for medical finances, unfortunately, the family is not even slightly close to the cost estimate.  Please keep Gilberto in your thoughts and prayers and please consider making a donation, anything helps.
