Send GW Students to Black Panther!

Donation protected
We are a low-income community school serving students in grades 8-12 in West Indianapolis.  We serve an extremely diverse community of students who are predominantly black and brown and often not or under-represented in positive portrayals in media including news and film.  Nearly all of our students receive discounted or free meals--an indicator of poverty.  As a part of our Black History month lessons and activities, we would like to give our students the opportunity to see Black Panther, the first Marvel film directed by and fully about black characters.   In addition to relating the viewing towards an assignment students will do in their advisory period, we will be taking students to view the movie at the start of the school day at 7:30am in order to reward those who come to school on time.  While students have permission slips completed to attend the movie, we are making the day in which we take them to the screening a surprise to celebrate those who consistently come to school on time.  We arranged a special price of $6.50 per student and anticipate bringing 400 students to the screening should we receive adequate funding.
