My name's Arian and I recently finished my first year of a two-year masters course and due to forces outside of my control (that are listed below), I am unable to afford my second and final year at Parsons The New School for design. I have a 3.85-grade point average and this will be my 3rd and final degree. All of the funds raised will go towards paying my tuition.
What went wrong -
I am an international student from Iran and recently the US government decided to impose economic sanctions against my home country.
These sanctions directly affected my life and career in painful ways.
My family's business went bankrupt as did many other Iranian small businesses that were somehow dependent on imported goods from the west.
The Iranian currency was devalued as a result of these sanctions, making the money that I worked hard for over the past few years and saved to finance my education worth almost half of what they were when I began my education.
All of this resulting in my inability to overcome a $9000 financial barrier that is keeping me from my education. $9000 is a large sum of money to me and many people I know. I know I am asking for a lot, I am asking for your help to change my life so that I can, in turn, do the same for others.
(If the funds raised from this post exceed $9000 I am committed to helping 17 other fellow Iranian students that I know are struggling with the exact same problem.)
How I tried to solve this problem -
The economic change happened all so quickly and It didn't give me enough time to plan for solutions.
However, I have tried to work this summer to overcome my debt hurdle, but unfortunately, I have hit roadblock after roadblock and this campaign is my last resort to return to my studies and build the life I dream of.
I also applied for many scholarships and awards but the ones that could have helped me were already expired.
How I plan to impact the world with my degree -
TOYS. As an industrial designer I plan to impact the world through creating meaningful and harmless educational toys for children, Previously I was a kindergarten teacher in Iran and absolutely loved working with children and the joy that both toys and learning provided.
