Czechoslovak Freedom Fountain

My name is Carrie Saint and I have lived in Leamington Spa for the last 22 years.  As a citizen of the town and as a Jew, I feel very connected to this cause and felt that, with a professional background in PR, I was in a position to help support The Friends of the Czechoslovak Memorial Fountain's campaign to raise the £25,000 required to renovate this important monument.

The Fountain was erected in memory of the seven brave Czech and Slovak men who gave their lives in 'Operation Anthropoid' - the daring WWII mission to eliminate Rheinhard Heydrich.  Heydrich was Hitler's right-hand man - the architect of the 'Final Solution' - and the only senior Nazi to be assassinated during the War.

The Fountain was commissioned and funded by former Czech and Slovak Legionnaires, who settled all over the world after the war.  As such, it is a unique memorial to all the Czechoslovak soldiers, airmen and patriots who fell during the Second World War.

After almost fifty years, it is now in urgent need of restoration to ensure that it reminds future generations of the heroism of those who gave their lives for freedom in the fight against the evils of Nazism.

The Freedom Fountain is of enormous historic significance locally, nationally and internationally - an enduring monument to the courage of the men involved.
