I have never had a family. I've had to eat garbage and forage on the streets to survive. On Tuesday, I didn't make it to my destination while I was doing street dog stuff, and I ran into traffic. I was so scared and the vehicles didn't stop. I kept getting hit. My back legs stopped working and I was trapped between oncoming cars. Thankfully some people stopped and moved me out of the way. Then a really nice lady picked me up and put me in a car. She patted me as my new dad drove us to the vet hospital. My new mom stayed with me while the veterinarian checked out my injuries. They said my pelvis was broken in multiple places. I don't know what that means but it really hurts and I can't stand up. I stayed at the hospital for a few nights and then my mom came to get me. She took me to a surgeon for a second opinion, and he said he could help me walk! I can't go to the bathroom on my own and my skin is really dry and itchy. They say I have mange. My legs still move but they really hurt. People keep telling me I'm a good girl and that I'm really lucky. My mom named me Franklin but she calls me Frankie or Frank the Tank because I got hit by cars and survived. My new parents need help paying for my medical bills so that I can walk and run and play with other dogs again. Will you please help them to help me?

.....
Frankie has been admitted to the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Hospital where I have no doubt that they will take extraordinary care of her. She tried to stand up on the drive from OKC to Stillwater and rode most of the way with her head in my lap. The injuries to her pelvis are extensive and surgery was the recommendation to promote the best quality of her future life. She has multiple pelvic fractures including a really nasty sacroiliac fracture that could prevent her hips from aligning properly without surgery. She may also have acetabular fractures to the left side of her body, as her nerve assessment showed potential lack of sciatic nerve function, but her femoral nerve seems to be ok! Both hindlimbs are weak, especially the left side. The surgery will help to hopefully prevent a "crunching" of the pelvic halves which would impair bathroom function. The veterinarians plan to put in a plate and some screws to provide her with stability. She also suffers from mange all over her body and roadrash from her accident. Despite these extensive injuries, she has been nothing but sweet -- only yelping occasionally when she must be moved.

This whole situation was entirely unexpected, and as such, I am struggling with the burden of her medical bills. I have paid $5,000 out of pocket so far (hospitalization and downpayment for surgery), but surgical expenses will be at least $1000-1500 more. For those of you who know me, understand that as a graduate student, this is quite a financial load! I really appreciate any and all efforts to help give Frankie the care she needs. None of us asked for this horrible incident to happen, and she deserves a second chance. Thank you for your love and support! ~Sarah (and Frankie)

Also, if the funds raised somehow exceed the expected costs of surgery and rehab, I am planning on donating them to local rescue organizations to help other animals who may be facing similar situations.
