For The Next Generation Book Drive

Want to join me in making a difference? The goal of this book drive is to raise $7,000 which will then be matched 50% for a total of over $10,000. The money will be used to purchase books for the children that use the services of The Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County.
The CAC works to help children who have been sexually and physically abused tell their story and get on the path toward healing.
Before the existence of CACs, children who reported abuse would have to tell their story multiple times to multiple people. Children would relive the most traumatic moments in their lives over and over again. CAC changed that. Together with the local police, DCFS, States Attorneys, forensic interviewers and a CAC advocate they have the child tell their story only one time in a safe environment.
My mother, Mary Susan Twomey was a volunteer nurse there and dedicated her time to help these children get through the most difficult experience of their life. After she passed away in April 2018, we raised money for the CAC. I wanted to continue her legacy and together with the CAC am helping to make a difference in the lives of those they work with.
Last year the CAC interviewed over 600 children and saw over 1,000 children. With the money raised in this book drive, each child will walk away with a book or two of their own.
This gift may not change their reality...but books absolutely hold the power to make their lives better. To be a source of comfort, companionship, guidance, therapy, escape...to remind a child YES, you are worthy, smart, gifted, unique, and there is a whole world of opportunity waiting for YOU.
