Who We Are
The Salinas Youth Art Exhibit and Scholarship Event is being sponsored by The Bastrop Fine Arts Guild. We are a non-profit arts organization committed to providing authentic art opportunities to the youth in our community.
The Project
We are raising money to organize a community-wide outreach K-12 program known as the Salinas Youth Art Exhibit and Scholarship Event. This student event honors a Bastrop-born artist, Porfirio Salinas. Students create art under the supervision of their art teachers. Members of The Bastrop Fine Arts Guild judge the work and make arrangements to display art in historic downtown businesses. A reception is held at the Performing Arts Center to recognize Bastrop students and to award a $1000 scholarship to a deserving senior in an arts-related field. This year, the theme is Fiesta. This project ties the schools, the arts community and businesses together to promote our students, the arts, and Bastrop's rich Hispanic culture.
How We Will Use Funds
The money raised will be used to provide kindergarten through high school art teachers with supplies, materials to matte and frame artwork, and for the $1000 scholarship.
We will be needing the funds for teacher supplies in March. The artwork will be exhibited in April. We hope to raise the money for the scholarship no later than April. The awards ceremony is in May. If you help fund this project for our students, you will be recognized at the awards ceremony, unless you wish to remain anonymous.
As Pablo Picasso said, "every child is an artist." Thank you for helping our youth express themselves through art.
