Clothing Label for Amputee/Veterans

Donation protected
Hi my name is Nas!

I am in my last semester at FIT in NYC obtaining my Bachelor's of Science degree in technical design. For my senior thesis portfolio I am developing a clothing line that caters to amputees needs and more specifically the female veterans of our country that have gone through this traumatic experience.

There are currently 1.9 million amputees in the USA alone (half of the amputees are the cause of diabetics). Over the course of these few years 1,200 American soldiers (both women and men) have lost their limbs in battle. Women are 14% of the military force that are deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq, and they serve 90% of all military occupation.

It is important to understand exactly what the struggles are for amputees when getting dressed and what certain function they wish they could find in clothing. Currently what is out there fashion wise is nothing but old granny looking clothing and people need to be reminded that these veterans coming back hurt are very young or very young at heart.

Even though I will be creating women's clothing for my portfolio (for the sake of time, I have two months) the overall technical design is catered to both women and men. Whether an amputee from a medical condition or a hero of war I want to share my passion of fashion for a cause that takes great strength to conquer.

I greatly appreciate all support! The funds will be used strictly for fabric, trims, and photography. Any donations made over $500 will be given to the The Given Limb Foundation.

Much appreciated,
