The Atkinson Family learned of this phrase in 2007 when we lost our patriarch, George Atkinson. His Pastor shared a story with us along with giving each of us grandchildren ceramic frogs my grandpa made for Pastor Bob to take while making hospital visits to his parishioners.
You see, that is what we’ve been doing the last two weeks, fully relying on GOD for a miracle. Many of you know that Tom, aka Stick, Doc, and I’ve even heard, the golden arm enjoyed the first Friday Night Lights with his love Lowynn two weeks ago before suffering a heart attack later that night. Because of the valiant efforts of Lowynn, Tom had a chance to live. As the weekend went on, the chances seemed to deminish and come Monday, prognosis was grim. Their family, friends, the LC community, and Napoleon students near and far joined in continual prayer. We never gave up, we Fully. Relied. On. GOD. By the Grace of God, Uncle Tom on Tuesday gave us a glimmer of hope. There are a plethora of ups and downs the last two weeks this family and the LC community has endured, but the moral of the story is, the prayers never stopped, bonds became stronger, and our faith in our Lord and Savior only grew deeper. Uncle Tom is nothing short of a miracle. He is talking and asking questions and completely taken aback with all that’s transpired the last two weeks. We are beyond proud of him and are in awe of his strength and fighting spirit.
With that said, he has a long road ahead of him with his recovery. Josh, Seth, Sara, and Monica went a week of around the clock hours at the hospital taking time off work and the medical bills that are coming will be insurmountable.
I set up with page knowing full and well that family and friends alike have asked what they can do to help and are willing to help in any way. I want Aunt Lowynn and the boys to be able to focus on Uncle Tom’s recovery and not worry about what’s lingering ahead. I also know, anything in excess of what is used to pay medical bills, will be donated as they see fit.
We are so appreciative of all the prayers, love, and support from each and everyone of you.
