PROMOTE GENERAL AVIATION IN NEW ENGLAND!
Formed in 2008 as a chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Fitchburg Pilots Association (FPA) is part of a world-wide organization with tax-exempt 501c3 nonprofit status. We’re an active group with a specific mission of promoting safety awareness to our members, providing education to the public by introducing area residents and youngsters to aviation and providing annual scholarships to a qualified college students.
How do we do this? A few ways are listed here:
1. By promoting safe flying to our members with safety seminars, monthly meetings, and offering education opportunities for all pilots in the larger New England area.
2. By introducing and demystifying aviation to area residents with an annual Aero Fair, an open house usually held in the spring. We invite everyone from the surrounding towns to join us for airport (and aircraft) tours, free flights for youngsters aged 8-17 in a small airplane piloted by one of our capable pilot members and demonstrations of aerodynamics relating to all aspects of aviation. The flights for youngsters are part of a world-wide Young Eagles program sponsored by our national Experimental Aircraft Association and are strictly monitored for safety and professionalism. And they’re fun for everyone involved!
3. By notifying area residents, schools and colleges of our scholarship program and awarding annual scholarships to qualified students majoring in a field related to aviation.
After outgrowing a few meeting spaces generously donated by a some of the business located at Fitchburg Airport, FPA members spent two years erecting a simple building we like to call our Aviation Center to help us support the large events we hold. But it's missing something very important - bathrooms! Our funds won't cover any more improvements and we want to add bathrooms for the convenience of attendees including children and the elderly.
And that’s why we’re asking for your help. If you live in the area, stop in at the airport and see our facility. Wherever you live, please donate whatever you can for the bare necessities. Thanks for your support!
