Overview

Given the history of mistrust between the scientific community and communities of color, it is essential for the Health Ministries Network (HMN); a largescale faith based cohort, to provide a mechanism to advance and improve the quality of health of all people by bridging the game between researchers and a variety of different minority groups.

HMN, Founded by Michael Friend, a visionary citizen who's dedicated his life to eradicating Sickle Cell Disease, has developed the "Faith and Science" project that will develop a mechanism to foster meaningful trustworthy relationships between scientist and leaders within the faith based community.

Historically, the church has served as a means of financial and spiritual support for many people of color.  The investments these institutions and their leaders have made in their respective communities have created an important bond built on trust and mutual respect. Thus, the active involvement of the faith based communitity is an essential component to improving the quality of health for individuals struggling with illness. As a pillar of support, especially in diverse communities, churches and faith based leaders are necessary to build trust and foster relationships between scientific researchers and diverse communities.

The Minority Coalition for Precision Medicine (MCPM) also Founded by Michael Friend and Co-Founded by Sickle Cell Disease patient citizen Shakir Cannon, is a collective dedicated to using the White House’s landmark Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) to best benefit communities of color nationwide. Our main goal is to act as a liaison between African Americans and institutions utilizing the PMI so that both parties benefit from being at the forefront of innovation.

Together, these organizations have the ability to eradicate all forms of negative belief as it relates to research and minority participation. Combined they will offer training and education on the benefits of precision medicine. This training will be conducted by some of the most influential minority scientist/researchers specializing in a variety of diseases/conditions.

Your investment/donation will help us to pair up scientist with thousands of faithbased organizations. Proceeds raised will be utilized to create mass social media campaigns, online events and video messaging that will feature both scientist and faithbased leaders together.

By becoming a part of the "Faith and Science" project through your active participation and donation you will be joining other great scientists such as christian molecular biologist & Princeton graduate Dr. Tshaka Cunningham, University of Alabama graduate & Physicist Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green, as well as Argonne National Laboratory scientist Dr. Jack Gilbert.
