Our Unique Approach
Since 2003, ExYo has been a consistent bright spot in the lives of thousands of the most challenged children and teens in our community.
Our unique model is built on therapeutic principles and the knowledge that feeling protected and secure is critical to healthy childhood and adolescent development. In a safe, supportive environment, ExYo artists and staff engage with kids in arts-based activities like drumming, dancing, music, poetry, and visual arts. Before long, our kids discover fun, creative, positive ways to express themselves — and in the process, learn valuable long-term skills that can change their lives in meaningful ways.
Moving Forward for a Stronger Future
This June, ExYo is making an exciting move to a new studio space, one that is larger, full of light and, for the first time in our history, designed specifically for the way we work.

We Need Your Help to Reach the Finish Line!
At ExYo, we know how to stretch every dollar. We also have an amazing network of friends and supporters who share our desire to see kids succeed. Thanks to the remarkable generosity of ExYo corporate sponsors, 75% of our project budget has been covered by in-kind and donated services. To help us raise the final $50,000 by June 30, we’re reaching out to our community of friends and supporters.
With ExYo, Kids Find a Positive Way Forward
In our safe and supportive environment, children and teens experience vital growth, setting them on a path toward becoming active contributors to their community. Here’s how:
• Through music, dance, theater and visual arts, kids whose lives are affected by adversity and challenge are able to have fun and experience much-needed joy.
• Engaging in rhythmic activity like music, drumming and dancing is a recognized paradigm for healing the trauma that comes from poverty and exposure to violence.
• Through the ExYo experience young people learn important long-term skills that can change their lives in positive and meaningful ways.
• Along with our community partners, we offer a network of consistent adult support that fills a critical gap for many kids.
• And finally, ExYo is a place where kids can just be kids — something many of us take for granted, but is often missing in their lives.
