Mission Trip to Malawi, Africa
Dear Family and Friends,
My name is Emma and I am a Junior in high school. I have been attending Church of the City (formally The People's Church) in Franklin for the past five years.
I created this page to ask for your support and prayers concerning a mission trip to Malawi, Africa. Several girls in my small group at church, along with our two leaders and a few other high school students, are planning to travel with a team from our church from May 24 - June 5, 2017. The cost of the trip is $3600 plus approximately $400 additional for shots and medicine.
Malawi is ranked one of the poorest countries in the world. Three-quarters of Malawians live below the international poverty line, surviving on less than $1.25 per day. As a result of endemic poverty and the many threats to health, the average life expectancy is only 47 years. The country also suffers from an HIV/AIDS epidemic which has struck southern and central African countries so severely. Over 90,000 people in Malawi live with HIV/AIDS – more than one in ten adults are infected.
Through our partnership with Capital City Baptist Church, we will provide support to Adziwa Christian School and community outreach programs for approximately 100 impoversihed families who care for AIDS orphans. Our goal is to empower local ministry leaders and strenthen ties for ministry between Adziwa with surrounding community of Kauma. We know God has called us to go to Malawi to help with Adziwa, and the many people there who need care. We are extremely excited (and nervous) about it, but we know that God will use us to help others, and use others to help us.
