Emily's Tail

Most of you know Emily as a friend, veterinarian, sole business owner and one of the kindest persons that walks this planet. SHE IS ALSO A FIGHTER Over the past 23 years Emily has been battling a serious underlying health issue that continues to negatively affect multiple organ systems and has resulted in countless surgeries.  She has lost several organs as a result and battled numerous cancers.  She has even been to multiple tier one research hospitals, like the Mayo Clinic, and no doctor can figure out the definitive cause of the underlying disease wreaking havoc on her body.  To date there is no treatment, only management to try to give her the best quality of life possible.  Emily is going in for another very invasive GI surgery at the end of June.  This will be the second such procedure within a year as the first one was unsuccessful.  This is a very serious surgery and due to our respect for her privacy we will not divulge the details but will tell you that there is a very high complication rate since the doctors are going to have to be even more aggressive and invasive.   The results of this surgery will have lifelong implications for Emily.  Emily has also been told she may have a collagen deficiency so after surgery she will need to address this new health development through genetic testing, tissue biopsies with special staining, and even more surgeries.  To make matters worse, her insurance is basically denying Emily coverage on the majority of the necessary medical help and at home care that her surgeons and team of doctors have strongly advised.  She will be paying at least $1,000 dollars per week out of pocket just to cover her post-operation prescription medications.  She will need an in-home electric hospital bed, walker, and other medical equipment for several months during her recovery.  It is also very likely she will need part to full time assistance during the first several weeks of her recovery.  If her insurance continues to deny her aid, we estimate she will be spending at least $30,000 out of pocket in the 4 to 6 months following this procedure.  This would not include everyday necessities such as paying for your mortgage/rent, power bill, and groceries.   Emily was extremely hesitant, to say the least, to allow us to begin this GoFundMe campaign.  After weeks of struggle with insurance and realization that her expenses may be too much to overcome, she has allowed us to do this. Please show Emily the love that she has shown us and our animals over the years.  She really needs our support.  All money donated will go to prescription drug costs, in-home hospital equipment, in-home nursing assistance, and other medical expenses. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand Isaiah 41:10
